Enjoying Your Outdoor Space

Whatever happened to the lazy, hazy days of summer?

Most of us – especially those in four-season climates – tend to bite off more than we can chew when it comes to summer outdoor projects. Or we get so wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life that we forget to get outside and smell the roses. Literally.

If this sounds like you, we officially give you permission to slow your roll this summer. In fact, we’ve put together some tips and ideas to help you simplify your outdoor projects, kick back and relax, and enjoy your outdoor space.

We hope these help get you outside and relaxing with a cold glass of lemonade in no time. Cheers!

Keep It Simple

Yardwork can take a ton of time and labor. But it doesn’t have to. For instance, no one says you have to plant hundreds of individual marigolds, petunias or any other annual flower each year. There are any number of perennial plants with flowering blooms and high-impact foliage that come back each and every year. (Plant once, and you’re done.) Your local nursery is a great resource for helping you pick which ones will do best in your yard.

Get Your Hands Dirty

With that said, some people find gardening extremely soothing. There’s something about digging in the dirt that connects them to nature and helps ground them. If you know this isn’t you, feel free to skip ahead!

But if it is – or you’d like to try and see – consider planting just a limited number of annual flowers or a few of your favorite herbs or veggies. We like sticking with pots to avoid it turning into too big of a project. (Bonus: Pots in a container wall or planter get them off the ground and away from bunnies and other small critters.)

Put Your Feet Up

Whatever you do, don’t forget to put your feet up! The main ingredient here is good comfy seating, but it’s important to also think about what you want to do while you recline. (Soak up the sun? Read a book? Watch the clouds float by?) Then let that determine if you opt for a hammock in the shade, a chaise lounge in the sun, or an Adirondack chair with footrest like ours.

Once you’ve got the seating, then it’s time to pick a location in your yard and add any accessories that will complete the experience. Think: a sun-blocking umbrella or small weather-proof table for that cold glass of lemonade.

Share the Sunshine

When you’re ready to share the sweetness of summer with others, it doesn’t have to be a big, complicated event. You can keep gatherings low-key (read: less work) by sticking to one easy food option like a burger bar and letting guests help themselves to drinks. Old-school lawn games like croquet add a lazy, hazy bit of fun (or what about kickball or catching fireflies?)

Whatever you do, make sure it’s easy on you as the host. For example, our stainless steel coolers help keep cold drinks accessible to everyone, and they also come on a convenient rolling cart. (We’ve even got one with built-in entertainment…in the form of a foosball table on top!)

Containerize It

So much outdoor gear is big or awkwardly sized. (Yes you, gardening hose, badminton set and chair cushions.) But there’s also smaller items to keep track of too. And no one wants to go traipsing back and forth inside or to the garage to have to find…or drag…each item out each time you need it.

Make it easy on yourself by adding some weather-friendly storage right on your deck, patio, or wherever they’re within reach. TRINITY offers a number of wire shelving racks that are NSF-certified for indoor and outdoor use, as well as baskets, bins, and environmentally friendly, corrosion resistant deck boxes.

Here’s wishing you an easy, breezy summer in your outdoor space!
