Making A Difference with Environmentally-Friendly Bamboo
Posted by Rachel Crippin Clark on 18th Sep 2024
As our company has evolved – and we’ve all learned more about climate change, pollution and deforestation – we at TRINITY have made it part of our mission to be good environmental stewards. After all, we only get one Planet Earth.
And that’s not something we take lightly. We know there are many issues to consider when selecting materials and running a business. But we’re committed to making positive environmental impacts while also maintaining our history of quality and value.
Through our Ecostorage® line, we seek out opportunities to reduce waste, energy and toxic chemicals. We also look for materials that are sustainable, recyclable or already recycled/reused. (This includes rubber wood, 100% recyclable stainless steel, and locally reclaimed wood.) In addition, we use a chrome-colored finish, which is achieved without releasing toxic chromium into the environment.
Benefits of Bamboo
But one of our favorite materials is sustainable bamboo. Why? Bamboo is the world’s fastest growing plant (yes, it’s technically a plant, not a tree!). That means the environmental impact on the surrounding soil, water system, other plants and local wildlife is substantially less than when you harvest a different type of wood. In fact, cutting bamboo actually stimulates future growth.
Bamboo is also extremely helpful in mitigating climate change. According to our friends at One Tree Planted, bamboo can store up to 1.78 tons of carbon dioxide per clump per year when properly managed and intensively harvested. (Less carbon in the atmosphere reduces the greenhouse gas
effect and lessen the impacts of climate change.) Bamboo reduces carbon dioxide in the air 10 times faster than woody trees.
Even better, bamboo is extremely strong and durable. That means any product made with it is built to last. (It’s even been compared to concrete and steel.)
How We Use It
We like bamboo so much, you can find it in a number of our different products. This includes laundry organizer carts, garment racks with shelves, wood shoe racks, freestanding kitchen islands and carts, and shelving units. There are a variety of options for different tastes and styles…some products are made entirely of bamboo and others use bamboo tops as complements to other materials.
Just enter “bamboo” into the search box on the top of this page, and you’ll see around 60 items on any given day. We even have bamboo lids on our glass canisters.
Taking It One Step Further
Want to know how we’re taking our commitment to bamboo up a notch? Even though bamboo is a sustainable resource, there’s no sense in adding single-use products to landfill waste. We know we were amazed to learn 1.5 billion single-use bamboo chopsticks are disposed of EACH WEEK around the globe!
Our new sister company, RENEW by TRINITY, actually repurposes used chopsticks and gives them a second life…as eye-catching cutting boards, coasters, and even tables for your home. You can learn more here about our latest way of making meaningful environmental impacts…and quality products for your home.
Choosing environmentally-friendly products are just one way you can make an impact. For every product purchased on our site, TRINITY makes a donation to One Tree Planted to support reforestation around the world.
